Okay, this was hilarious in many ways!
The episode opens with Paparazzo being chased by two guys
in a car. He races along a coastal highway and ends up in Electro City,
where he narrowly escapes the two. He runs into the SensaNews studios,
almost too late for his own show, where Ace is already waiting ("I can
do the interview myself. There are some questions I always wanted to ask
myself."). He is today's guest. Throughout the show, the two crooks show
up and decide to get rid of him behind the stage. Ace notices the two,
asking if they are friends of Paparazzo. "Apparently not," he answers his
own question as Paparazzo stumbles away. He takes on the two crooks, chasing
them away.
Ace takes Paparazzo back to the Magic Express and the
reporter jokes that maybe they didn't like his last report. Cosmo counters
that maybe they didn't like his sensation-hungry style. Paparazzo is offended
at first, then relents that maybe, just maybe, it was that. As Cosmo coughs
and takes some medication, Paparazzo asks if it's flu medicine, and Cosmo
wants to know why he asks. "Call it a reporter's intuition."
In the meantime, a whole bunch of crooks approaches the
Express and Angel warns Ace that she has discovered 'suspicious objects'.
Paparazzo demands to know what's going on, which is when the Express is
rocked by grenades. Angel goes into defense mode (this train is a fortress!
It's made of bullet-proof steel). A grenade takes out the bridge and Ace
gets into his firefighting gear, trying to extinguish the fire and move
the train. The Magic Express starts to move, racing through Electro City,
trailing a cloud of smoke and still burning. Cosmo is in his firefighting
gear as well now, while Paparazzo tries to call the fire department --
without success.
Ace is unable to get away from the crooks chasing the
Express and comes to a cliff. A dead end. Chortling that now they have
him, they move in. Ace suddenly moves the Express forward... and over the
cliff. Everyone tumbles around inside as the massive train hits the water
and sinks to the ocean floor. Paparazzo nearly loses the last of his nerves,
yelling at Ace whether or not he's actually sane.
"Well, the fire's out, isn't it?" he grins.
The scene where the Express rises out of the ocean is
impressive, I have to say.
As Paparazzo complains about his new suit being torn,
Ace finally loses his patience. "Because of you, I was nearly killed twice
today. I want to know what is going on. The whole story."
Paparazzo shows them an old new clip about the restructuring
of the St. Paul hospital, which now has a new director, John Wosh. When
he saw the face, he thought he smelled a story because Wosh seemed familiar
to him, and started to hang around Wosh's office. Which was when the two
crooks discovered him.
Cosmo argues that it's complete nonsense. He was at the
hospital last week because of a rollerblade accident and he feels fine.
Except for his cold. But he caught it after he left the hospital.
Angel checks out Wosh but comes up empty. There are no
files. Paparazzo says that Wosh might have looked different, and as they
alter the picture, they discover that Wosh is not who he seems to be. His
real name is Paul Kelly and he was arrested for illegal chemical experiments
ten years ago. He escaped prison and was never found.
Paparazzo cheers that this is the story of the year,
while Cosmo wonders how such a man could become director of a hospital.
"That's what we've got to find out," Ace answers.
As he turns to Paparazzo to tell him that no word is
to leak outside, the reporter has disappeared -- only to confront Wosh
with the truth. As not other expected, he bites off more than he can chew.
He is beaten unconscious and Wosh orders to get rid of him.
Ace arrives at the hospital; too late. They find Paparazzo's
broken cell phone and start to search the hospital, when Ace discovers
two male nurses, who happen to be the crooks who tried to take him on at
SensaNews. They hide behind Ace's cape in a room, watching the two give
medication to a patient with a viral cold. Cosmo comments that he was given
those pills as well, as pain medication..... Ace compares the two boxes
and they come from the same company. The secret of the hospital is that
they infect people with a new virus, then treat them with the medication
from only one company because only they have the cure, selling it at incredible
prices.
In the meantime, Paparazzo is in trouble. The bad guys
are about to dump him into a boiling liquid. Ace saves him and Paparazzo
complains about him being nearly too late.
"Cosmo, I wonder if it was worth the trouble to save
him," is all Ace remarks. Then they discover Wosh leaving and follow, as
does Paparazzo. Ace jumps the fleeing helicopter and clings to one rung
-- and Paparazzo grasp his ankle, not about to let the 'story of the year'
escape him. Ace is almost stunned speechless by the reporters move, wondering
if he has gone completely crazy. A small camera follows Paparazzo. They
are about to collide with a skyscraper when Ace lets go and floats them
both! Levitating them both is rather strenuous and when Wosh shoots at
them, Ace drops a bit. Paparazzo clings to the rungs again while Ace tries
to get Wosh, who threatens to poison the whole city with a virus he has
in a flask.
Paparazzo's camera bumps into Wosh's hand and he drops
the flask. Ace uses magic to telekinetically call it to him. Wosh decides
to crash the helicopter, but is hit with a right hook by Ace and the helicopter
lands safely.
Back in the studio, probably a day or two later, Paparazzo
presents the story of the year, proclaiming he will unveil Ace's secret
powers. Ace, the guest star, sits calmly in his seat while Cosmo, home
in the Express, wonders why Ace sits by while Paparazzo wants to dig into
his magic secrets. As Paparazzo runs the tape, we see whales and dolphins
instead of Ace and magic. Ace has replaced the tape and Paparazzo is flabbergasted
as to where the original tape went.
Magic Moments:
- Ace levitates again, this time his own body weight,
as well as Paparazzo. He not only manages to keep them in the air, but
he also flies upwards over a skyscraper and toward the escaping helicopter
once more. He only loses his concentration when Wosh shoots. Still, it's
a visible strain
- Cosmo and the rollerblade accident. I wonder how many
he had before <g>
- Ace really loses his patience with Paparazzo twice.
Can't blame him. The guy was really unnerving!
- the Magic Express is water-proof! And it runs under
water as well. Impressive machine....
- the bridge has magically moved from the front of the
train (where it was in other episodes, like The Chase) to the back of the
engine. Slight continuity error.
- in Angel's main computer room, the yellow lights on
the floor hide little compartments where Ace for instance stores the firefighting
gear. Interesting.
